Vale das Furnas
Located in the southeast of the island, the parish of Furnas has an area of 70.20km2, which makes it one of the largest parishes in the Azores in terms of area. In all, there are just over 1,500 inhabitants that make up this wonderful parish. Every day, hundreds of tourists visit this location.
Vale das Furnas is home to two active volcanoes and a huge variety of thermal waters, being considered by many as one of the largest hydropolises in the world. The strong activity of its steaming boilers, the calm of its lagoon, and the tranquility of its landscape, combined with the thermalism, make this a place of choice for holidays and one of the most visited places in the entire Azores Archipelago.
The majestic landscape of the Furnas Lagoon reflects the force of nature. The blue of the lagoon and the green of the vegetation creates a setting that looks like an authentic painting. Take the opportunity to stroll along the shores of this lagoon and enjoy the sounds of birds and the heat that emerges from the ground.
But not everything is about this lagoon and the stews made with the heat of the volcano. The center of Vale das Furnas is also worth a visit. Its architecture, its wonderful botanical gardens, and the thermal waters are some of the reasons why thousands of tourists visit São Miguel Island every year.
Terra-Nostra Park is an example of this incalculable magic. A garden with more than two centuries of existence, which occupies a total area of 12.5 hectares. It is, without a doubt, the heart of Vale das Furnas, where it is possible to discover countless species of flowers and vegetation representing all continents, as well as take a bath in the famous thermal pool.
In addition to all this, Vale das Furnas is home to the famous and delicious Bolos Lêvedos, one of the most sought-after products in the entire Region.
